The list below includes links to lots of places where you can learn more – many of them were instrumental in putting this site together.
- General UK Personal Finance
- Money Saving Expert: Nothing specifically for US citizens (so some of the advice won’t apply), but massively helpful in getting your feet under you in the UK.
- Taxes for US Citizens Abroad
- Bogleheads, especially:
- US Expat Taxes Subreddit
- Facebook groups:
- Taxes for UK Residents
- The official gov.uk site is impressively well written for most things, compared to the hodgepodge of US sites (IRS, Social Security, etc.)
- Investing for Retirement/FIRE
- If you’ve found yourself here, I assume you’re already familiar with the concept of FIRE and investing. The list below is only a small selection of resources I’ve found particularly useful
- There are a number of subreddits that can also be very helpful, including:
- UK Government: Plan your retirement
- Forums & Facebook Groups
- Caution with all of the above – they are not tailored to the specific circumstance of US citizens living in the UK. What might be good advice for a US citizen in the US or a UK citizen in the UK, could be terrible when you have to follow both tax systems.
